St. Philip’s High School and College

Message from the Principal’s Desk

St. Philip’s High School and College is one of the most renowned educational institutions in the greater Dinajpur district. It was founded by the Catholic Diocese of Dinajpur in 1951. The Brothers of Holy Cross, Bangladesh, was assigned the administration of this institution in 2003. Since then the school has been moving forward smoothly and it has upheld a rich cultural and traditional background. I believe firmly in “Unity in Diversity” and we practice  it in our institution, as different ethnic groups live around our institution, and their children are studying here. Our foremost vision is, “Educating Mind and Heart” and we have been successful in doing so. As a result, we are accepted and appreciated by the people both at home and abroad.
In this educational journey, as always, we have laudable achievements in the public examinations. Specifically, St. Philip’s High School and College has earned a prestigious reputation from the years of 2000 to 2019 and has been awarded by different organizations of the country. For example, it received the Best Award of SEQAEP in 2014, Sher-E-Bangla Golden Award- 2019, Mother Teresa Golden Award- 2019 and, won the trophy of National Runner up in the Inter-school Basketball Tournament- 2019. On the other hand, during this time, infrastructural development and facilities of the institution have increased extensively. The Academic Buildings, the New Gate, and the New Administrative Building are examples of this.
Besides academic success, we always emphasize the integral development of our students. The unique curriculum provides our students with the ability to not only acquire knowledge but also to learn other essential life skills, such as team work, communication and public speaking, etc. As a part of extra-curricular activities, we have some clubs in our institution which are enriching our students in building varieties of skills and knowledge.
According to academic analysis, the youth of future generations are going to be more prone to violence and deviant behavior. This deteriorating trend is a matter of great concern to parents as well as teachers. We know through the media reports of incidents of abuse, self- inflicted violence, depression and violence, which are the results of excessive use and misuse of the internet and social media. So we all should be aware of these idiot boxes.

Dear students,

Your dream and goal is to become a good human and a good citizen. So it is my message to you that the people of the finest character deserve all good virtues. They are honest and committed to truthfulness in thought and deed. And thus, their true character encompasses the capacity for self-discipline, self-respect, high self-esteem and consequently these values uphold the perspective of the dignity of the person. I expect you will be such persons in your family, society, country and above all in the whole world.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

You have sent your beloved offspring to St. Philip’s to become good human beings, learn discipline, value education, and achieve good academic results so that they can face any challenge in or outside the country. And for this very reason, I urge you to spontaneously invest the highest amount for their better education. Your beloved son or daughter is really a good one and possesses innumerable talents, but for nurturing these talents, they just need your humble cooperation and special caring. I hope you will do so.

Dear Teachers,

My only expectation is that you all should strive to focus on all the children without discrimination, monitor and mentor them, appreciate their achievements and encourage them to overcome their shortcomings. I would also like to inspire you to create a healthy atmosphere in which they can develop their knowledge, skills, and attitude. Consider them precious and impressionable children, and appreciate even their smallest effort with all generosity and broadness of vision.
Finally, I want to mention that this school was established to educate the unprivileged and the aboriginal people of this locality, but gradually the children from more developed society have got the opportunity to receive education in this institution. After 70 years of dedicated service at this institution by our teachers, what comes to my mind is: “Success comes to those who work hard and stays with those, who don’t rest on the laurels of the past.” I am extending my sincere thanks and gratitude to all the former headmasters and principals along with teachers in general who devoted their untiring hard work and sacrificed much to fulfill the goal of this institution. I took over the administration as the principal on January 1, 2019. And, I am trying, heart and soul, to turn this institution into a dream institution by accomplishing the incomplete works of our former heads and principals. May God bless you all.
